The perspective "between film music and concert hall" sheds light on both the composer's diverse professional fields and the media transfers of his film music. The first comprehensive monograph on the composer Franz Waxman (1906-1967) opens up a new perspective on Hollywood film music from the 1930s to the 1960s, as well as on the music history of the 20th century between modernism, the canonized concert culture of the 19th century and contemporary popular music. Waxman worked in an international environment not only as a film composer, but also as a festival organizer, conductor and composer of opera and concert music. The focus of the title aims to illustrate the reciprocal media and aesthetic transfers "between film music and the concert hall" as an integral part of a musician's career in the United States in the first half of the 20th century.
