Anna Nowak: Concerto Conversations. New Aesthetic Ideas and the Memory of Genre in Instrumental Concertos of the 20th and 21st Centuries
The title of the lecture is a paraphrase of Joseph Kerman’s book Concerto Conversations from 1999, in which main
organization principles for the concerto in the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries are discussed. e talk
will be dealing with new aesthetic ideas embodied in the twentieth and twenty- rst centuries concertos, especially in
instrumental concertos penned by Polish composers, and it speaks about the memory of genre, which determines their
generic categorization.
