Reconstructing Operatic Mobility and Exchanges Across the Adriatic

Ausschnitt des Flyers der Konferenz

Cristina Scuderi speaks at the international conference "Music Mobility and Cultural Exchanges Across the Eastern Mediterranean in Modern Times" in Lecce

The international conference "Music Mobility and Cultural Exchanges Across the Eastern Mediterranean in Modern Times" aims to examine the dynamics of cultural exchange and mutual influence that have shaped the musical life of the countries bordering the Adriatic Sea. Particular attention will be paid to the routes that have made southern Italy a crossroads of different civilisations and cultures. By examining and comparing unpublished and little-known sources, the conference aims to reconstruct the dense network of artistic, social and cultural relationships that has intertwined opera, chamber music, symphonic and wind music repertoires between the modern era and the present day, testifying to the incessant musical osmosis that has shaped the history of the Mediterranean region.

The programme includes sessions on trans-Adriatic music routes, archival sources, the role of institutions and patrons, and a panel discussion aimed at outlining new research perspectives and evaluating their inclusion in the Dizionario Enciclopedico Universale della Musica e dei Musicisti (DEUMM).

Cristina Scuderi will give a lecture on 20 February 2026 on the topic of "Reconstructing Operatic Mobility and Exchanges Across the Adriatic: Issues and Challenges of a Methodological Approach Grounded in Prosopography and Network Analysis".
