These historical milestones provide the framework for a production that is deeply rooted in Montepulciano’s history, yet at the same time aims to forge new collaborations – through an innovative artistic approach that brings together students from Italy and Germany, local institutions in Montepulciano and internationally established experts, entirely in keeping with Henze’s ‘workshop’ philosophy (‘Cantiere’). The themes of the international conference, which will take
place at Palazzo Ricci and in the town hall, revolve around these three anniversaries. The aim of the conference is to shed light on the musical aesthetics as well as the political and educational dimensions of Henze’s compositional work, with a focus on his opera *Don Chisciotte*. The programme features discussions with Henze’s long-standing colleagues and friends, founders and artists of the Academy, as well as lectures by renowned musicologists and musical performances by students who have engaged with Henze’s music.
Elena Minetti from the Department of Art History and Musicolgy at the University of Graz has curated the conference together with Erdmuthe Brand and Judy Diodato.
