Ingeborg Zechner from the Department of Art History and Musicology is taking part in the renowned discussion series “At the Microphone: Diverse Voices in Art & Culture”. In challenging times such as these, it is all the more important to talk about diversity and inclusion and to give space to under-represented voices. An invitation to all who champion greater diversity of voices and visibility in art and culture. A series of talks moderated by Ebru Tepecik.
Is opera really so exclusive – an artistic experience reserved for the few? Musical theatre as a form of participation with high barriers to entry: from ticket prices, through rules of conduct and knowledge, to the dress code. Musicologist Dr Ingeborg Zechner from the University of Graz examines opera from a historical and socio-cultural perspective. We will discuss whether and how opera has shaped and developed as a social meeting place that is accessible and close to the people. Who is actually on and behind the stage here, and who is sitting in the auditorium?
You can register to take part online here.
