The Bachelor's degree programme in Musicology is offered jointly by the University of Graz (Karl Franzens University, Uni Graz) and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, KUG). It deals with academic approaches to music from a variety of perspectives in order to adequately understand and critically reflect on the meanings of music in different historical and cultural contexts. The degree programme in Graz is characterised by its interdisciplinarity and the breadth of the subject areas and sub-disciplines offered. Students gain an insight into the diverse aspects of musicology, which include historical, cultural, social, anthropological, ethnological, audiovisual, psychological, music analytical and technological issues. Topics include politics, gender, pop culture, media, jazz, acoustics, performance, aesthetics and art theory. The new curriculum for the Bachelor's degree programme in Musicology will apply from October.
