New publication "kritische Berichte" Vol.53 No.1 2025

What do genres do in the digital age? Digital distribution platforms and social media are making genres disappear, creating new ones and radically changing their function. With reference to current genre theories, the articles in this issue examine how TikTok and Instagram produce new forms and communities of discourse, what digital exhibitions are, how podcasts intervene legally and why contemporary art is interested in TV genres. Countering the modernist thesis that genres are becoming obsolete, the issue explicitly explores the social, aesthetic and epistemic potential of genres and genres in the digital present.

About the series
Die kritischen berichte. Zeitschrift für Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften is the journal of the Ulmer Verein - Verband für Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften e. V. Since its foundation in 1972, the quarterly publication has been a forum for critical art studies interested in socio-political issues and at the same time deals with current university and political topics.
