The interdisciplinary workshop Musical Landscapes and Mimetic Experiences: Listening to Sound as Score presents and discusses the findings of the artistic research project Sound as Score, which is dedicated to exploring the distinctive features of composing, performing and evaluating audio scores as an innovative artistic practice. Whilst written scores involve deciphering visual symbols, audio scores involve musicians perceiving and interpreting sound.
The compositional outcomes of the project will be brought to life in two concerts featuring eight world premieres by the ensembles Airborne Extended and Black Page Orchestra, which will conclude both days of the symposium at 7.00 pm. In her work, project leader Elisabeth Schimana explores the question, when a system does tip over?
