Eurovision Song Contest: United by Music – Divided by Politics?

„Auf den Punkt“ – der Nachrichtenpodcast der Süddeutschen Zeitung ©SZ

The biggest political protest in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. Saskia Jaszoltowski joins Ann-Maren Hoolt on the SZ Podcast to analyse what this means for the contest.

In this episode of the SZ podcast “Auf den Punkt”, musicologist Saskia Jaszoltowski discusses why the EBU is so keen to do this. Her research focuses on the extent to which politics features in the ESC. Is the Eurovision Song Contest more of a political stage or simply a huge pop culture machine?
